Color and movement dominated the Oscar Carvallo SS14 collection, shown on January 21st at the Paris haute couture fashion week. The collection is an inspiration and collaboration of two artists, Oscar Carvallo the designer and Carlos Cruz-Diez, the painter. Cruz-Diez create six tableaux (see here and here) for the collection and Carvallo’s creations were all directly inspired from them using fabrics and textiles, prints and construction of the different pieces to illustrate the works of art and bring them to life via the moment of the female body. Pastry Boy Dishes on High Fashion Design

Paul Waters, one of the sweetest guys in Paris (and he is a fabulous cake baker!) was darling enough to attend the Clarisse Hieraix fashion show for me for Paris Fashion Haute Couture Week. I have to admit, I am a little jealous that I couldn’t go, I love her work. But Paul knows her brand, so I was confident that I was handing the invite to a capable guy with style and a good eye for design.

Here is his beautiful review :

When one thinks of Haute Couture or luxury fashion, labels, brands and fashion houses such as Chanel or Louis Vuitton immediately spring to mind; but it is hard to imagine these names and brands that seem to rule over the industry with such power were once founded and created by people like Clarisse Hieraix.

Born in 1973 in Marie-Galante (Guadeloupe), Clarisse Hieraix received her diploma from the Chambre Syndicate of Haute Couture in Paris in 1999. During her initial studies, she perfected her craft while working on different collections, ultimately allowing her to perfect her style and personality. A style and personality that is very strong and evident in all her work, the Clarisse Hieraix woman knows exactly what she wants and where she is going.  Hieraix, may have a very long way to go before becoming the next “Chanel” but she certainly posses some potential and I was lucky enough to attend her latest show in Paris.

A Makeup Artist’s View on Haute Couture

I am thrilled to present a Paris Fashion Week haute couture show review from the darling and dashing makeup artist Charles Gillman, a British expat who has been making magic in Paris for three years now. I was lucky to get to work with him in a wedding modeling shoot and on my own Sweet Life in Paris video. And now he has been so kind as to lend his “plume” to Prête-Moi Paris for an article on Defined Moment’s Spring-Summer 2014 couture collection.

And without Further ado!

Defined moment’s show – 22nd January 2014

This winter I’m a makeup artist in hibernation, I’d spent most days nipping out to see clients and then whipping back home to spend my life by the Nespresso machine, as well as gluing my eyes to my laptop. Yes, Paris is fine-looking all year round, but it seemed easier and more tolerable from behind the window, avoiding the wind whipping, falling over undersized dogs and having disputes with fellow Parisians on the metro about ‘who got to the seat at the outset!’ (all these things are frequent occurrences.)
