Yelp France : 1 year old!

I love Yelp and so should you!

They threw their one year anniversary party for Yelp France/Paris on June 9th 2011, where there were foodies, bloggers, Yelpers and fans a-plenty, as well as food and drink! It was fun and fabulous and delicious!

I nibbled on oriental cookies with almonde paste (marzipan) that were lactose free!!! *happy face* from Diamande, enjoyed a cool Paris brand beer from the guys who revived Demory, made my own DIY ‘food porn’ at Norton of Paris’ hard to get to table (everyone wanted to have a go. LOL!) , sipped a DELICIOUS cocktail from Candelaria, drooled over Lola’s cookies (but couldn’t eat them…butter.) *sad face*, gobbled down a plate of yummy mexan specialties from El Nopal (chéri said that their guacamole was almost as good as mine. Aww!), got my picture taken by Lomography on their retro cameras that use…gasp…film! And I watched chéri taste some  very poten whisky proposed by Julhès which were accompanied by various delictable items to eat that brought out or married well with the different whisky flavors. (I’m not a big whisy fan).

To see what else was proposed for people to test, taste and drink that night check out Yelps description of the soirée here.

And here is their fabulous video! They caught me camera taking their picture! LOL!

I get by with a little Yelp from my friends!

So our friends at Yelp have decided that they really want to see us make silly fools of ourselves and are teaming up with Prête-Moi Paris! to recruit more votes for the race in high heels! La Course en escarpins with Sarenza. Check out the Yelp Paris newsletter that comes out today! (If you don’t speak french and you can’t understand the Sarenza website, I have a previous blog post in English to help you vote for us!) … (oh and…Learn to speak French confidently at http://www.accredited-online-colleges.org)

For the race : We need to be in 1st place in order to get a garunteed spot! Aaah! If not, we get thrown in a hat with the rest of the teams (like some who only have one or two vote…a lot of work they’re doing! Ppssshhht!) and then they will draw out 16 teams only. There’s a lot more than 16 teams signed up. 😦

But, enough about the race (oh and please go vote for us now, merci!)… Yelp, is a website that helps you find things…. no, not your long lost high school crush (that’s what facebook is for) nor your lost kitty (that’s what twitter is for)… but fun and useful and practical things like, a good market, or shoe shop, or bakery, or pharmacy etc. And each place is reviewed by locals. You may yourself also review places if you like. So join me on Yelp Paris and let’s share some of our favorite places to go to!

Mobile people check out the Yelp phone apps for phones like iphone & androids on your application marketplace.

à plus!

Mid-November UPDATE :

We did not get enough votes for the top spot, nor did we get selected in the random drawing for the other spots.

I guess I will just be running in heels to catch the bus!

XOXOXO

Vide Grenier – Attic Sale

Vide Grenier - snack bar

Reminded by Yelp Paris today about this event that I had attended two years ago (and where I had purchased an old bright orange vintage telephone) I decided to ditch the brocante at Daumesnil for the Vide Grenier at 11 cour Debille in the 11th. It’s a good thing I did too for I met some die-hard vintage dealers with exquisite articles!

BettyRama has a collection to drool over of ladies wear from the 40’s through the 80’s. I tried on a Thierry Mugler rare silk couture vest that did everything to enhance the female figure. (Merci Monsieur Mugler). I also tried on some gorgeous Guy Laroche dresses, and other cocktail dresses that you cannot find anymore without some major pavement pounding and address hunting. She has stunning lingerie and accessories as well. She says that vintage wear is just sexier, unlike the vulgarity that we often see these days. A simple form-fitting dress down to the knees can be very very hot.

I browsed items from Createur & Vintage who have a boutique in the 18th and will be holding a, apéro next weekend the 23rd of October from 19h (7pm) to 23h (11pm) at La Boutique du Bon Coin’s new annex at 29/30 rue Montcalm 75018.

Juke-Box also has a large collection of coats and vests (much needed during this sudden stretch of winter chill) from the 60’s-80’s. They have a store at 1-6 rue du Cygne, but will soon be opening a new one! Prête-Moi Paris will be looking out for it, so check back soon or watch twitter for updates!

But more than just clothing, you can find vintage home décor, vintage furniture, vintage lamps, vintage costume jewelry, vintage hats, vintage suitcases, pretty much vintage everything!

Entry is 2euros. The newt one is on November 1st. With 1950’s swing music playing, hots dogs at the snack bar and vendors quick with a joke, this place seems more like a party than an attic sale.

Allez s’amuser et chiner!

A special thanks to Yelp Paris for the tip

And it was a pleasure to meet the face behind the logo!
